St Louis was a night of victories for those who had been injured. Everyone in this sport knows it’s not a matter of if, but when an injury will occur.  Forkner made his return to the top spot for the first time since Indy 2019. He spent the offseason nursing a torn ACL and was more than excited to take the number 1 position in his home state.

Ken Roczen took the win in the premier class in St Louis. Round 2, 2017 was the last time he saw the podium in the top spot. He said the win seemed “surreal” during the press conference. He watched the time clock every lap and knew he had made mistakes in previous races in towards the end of the race, so he focused on charging and did feel comfortable in the front of the pack. He said being upfront felt “familiar.” There wasn’t a fan sitting as the #94 machine flew over the finish line. It’s been nearly 3 years since Ken’s accident left him with a dislocated elbow, dislocated wrist and a compounded radius. We all watched his Instagram as he worked to heal and committed himself to getting his goal of getting back on the podium. Just a few days after his accident he wrote: “Nothing is impossible.” In St Louis he proved exactly just that.

Justin Barcia came into the week feeling ill and settled into second early in the race. He knew the field was fast and stacked, but also knew he didn’t have what it took to get past Roczen. He discussed the fact that the we are early in the season and he knew he had to stay in front of Jason Anderson and was content with his standing in the race.

Barcia will keep the red plate heading into Anaheim 2 this weekend. Roczen is sitting in 2nd place in points and Adam Cianciarulo is in 3rd.
